Max Dean and Raffaello D'Andrea have always been fun and interesting to keep up with. At the venice biennale they had one of my favorite works which was a table that forms relationships. More on that HERE but for now they have released their final version of the self assembling chair. Originally worked on for the past few years and slated to be completed in may of 2007 (a bit late but we forgive them) is now done. While at the University of Georgia I took a autonomous robotics class and thought this guy was amazing, my fellow classmates (not one of which was an artist) did not understand or agree. What a bunch of crazies. Some other great robotic videos are linked below.
Maybe its because of my childhood love (admittedly an adult love as well) of and for transformers that this tugs at my heart strings but after seeing this today I have determined that I need to somehow find a reason for bunk beds in my life. The rest of the site is ok but most of the space savers are well engineered so take a look. (the promotional video is a bit cheesy but you get to see the works in action.) See all the rest HERE
Originally from everywhere (raised in a military family) I received my BFA from The University of Florida and my MFA from The University of Georgia. I am currently living in Georgetown Kentucky where I am a Professor of Sculpture at Georgetown College.
